(Special to The Gazette) - Ottawa, October 13 - The marriage took place yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at All Saints Church, of Nanno Mary, daughter of Mr. Guy Northcote Toller and the late Mrs. Toller, to Mr. Joseph Stanley Irvin, only son of the late Mrs. J.F. Gorman and the late Mr. Joseph Irvin. Owing to recent bereavement in the groom's family, only immediate relatives were present..

The church was decorated with palms and autumn leaves and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. C.G. Hepburn, assisted by the Rev. Canon J.F. Gorman. The wedding music was played by Mr. Hugh Huggins..

The bride, who was unattended, was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of white Bianchini satin with cowl neckline and falling from the moulded hipline in classic folds into a long train. She wore a corded girdle with long tassels and her flowing veil fell from a coronet of orange blossoms. Her slippers were white and silver, and she carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley..

The best man was Flight Lieutenant Blanchard, of Camp Borden, and the ushers were Mr. Fred Toller, brother of the bride, and Mr. Hugh Cranston, a cousin, of Arnprior. Miss Nanno Hughes, aunt of the bride, wore a velvet coat and skirt, with tunic of silver lisse embroidered in black in a scroll design, and a black velvet hat. Mrs. Charles O'Connor, aunt of the bride, wore a gown of brown velvet and a brown velvet hat trimmed with small ostrich feathers..

Miss Lucella Irvin, sister of the groom, wore a dress of black silk crepe with facings of white on the bodice, a black hat, a scarf of silver fox, and a corsage of white orchids and lilies of the valley. Mrs. G.B. Greene, aunt of the bride, wore a black velvet gown, with hat to match..

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Roxborough Apartments, the residence of Miss Nanno Hughes, aunt of the bride. The toast to the bride was proposed by Mr. D'Arcy McGee and responded to by the groom, the bride's father and Rev. Canon J.F. Gorman..

Leaving on the honeymoon, the bride travelled in a strictly tailored suit of navy blue cloth, a long coat with wide revers and deep cuffs of gray Persian lamb and a silver striped blouse, and a small blue felt hat. On their return Mr. and Mrs. Irvin will reside in Ottawa..

Caveat:- Throughout the project UK GRO birth, marriage and death index data appears. The GRO data appears in Quarters. Q1 = January, February and March, Q2 = April, May, June , Q3 = July, August and September and Q4 = October, November and December. Similarly, Mar Q = January, February and March, Jun Q = April, May, June , Sep Q = July, August and September and Dec Q = October, November and December. Where these dates occur, they represent the date of Registration of the event rather than the date of the actual event. Logically, registration occurs AFTER the event. In some cases this may be days or months or even years after the event. The important thing is that the event was recorded and a copy of the document of registration could be obtained if necessary. This also applies to South African NAAIRS records.

Similarly, the UK system is confusing to the uninitiated because registration districts can span several counties. Accordingly GRO locations may not record the true location of the event. They do record where the record is actually kept or recorded.

Caveat #2:- I have used URL's throughout the website as sources. The URLs are often from paid subscription sites so you may not be able to access them without an account. Inevitably there are broken URL's. I have been to every URL recorded here and at the time they were operational. In this regard, the Ancestry24 records are a problem. There are numerous references in the South African data citing Ancestry24 records. Unfortunately Ancestry24 has closed down and these records are no longer available on line.

The early South African records on this site would not have been as good as they are without the work done by Delia Robertson.
