bullet  Sources of information or noted events in his life were:

• Occupation. 3 Landrost of Stellenbosch.

31 Aug 2013
The above is from AJVR. Certainly there is no record of a Landrost at Stellenbosch with this name (that I could find).

• General Comment. 31 Aug 2013. He is a mystery. The record comes from AJVR and occurs in an Excel spreadsheet in RAB's possession.

1) There was no Ryno Cornelis Van Der Riet who was Landdrost of Stellenbosch.
2) There was a Ryno Johannes Van Der Riet who Landdrost of Stellenbosch. He was firmly married between the years 1779 to 1880 to Johanna Werndly and then from 1801-1828 to Johanna Herold. He died in 1828. Ergo he did not marry Anna Maria Van Ryneveld.
3) Dr. Johannes Van Der Riet and Maria Berthauld de St. Jean had the following known children.

1) Martha Cornelia (3/5/1754 - 15/2/1760)!
2) Pieter Albertus (1/12/1755 - )
3) Catharina Alida (10/8/1757 - 9/12/1757)!
4) Ryno Johannes (3/12/1758 - 1828)
5) Maria Johanna (6/2/1760 - 12/2/1760)!
6) Martha Cornelia (25/7/1761 - )
7) Johannes (18/5/1763 - 12/5/1764)!
8) Johannes (23/8/1765 - 10/6/1769)!
9) Maria Johanna (28/11/1767- )
10) Catharina Hester (13/8/1769 - 24/4/1771)!

ergo Ryno Cornelis Van Der Riet is not a known son.

On perusing the Van Ryneveld Family Records there is a discrepancy. The notes record him as Ryno Johannes Van Der Riet (1758-1828)
This is a perfect match to the above.

Time Line Analysis.
He married Johanna Werndly on 25 Apr 1779. She died Abt 1800
He married Johanna Herold on 12 Apr 1801. He died in 1828. He predeceased her - she died in 1861.
Ergo the only time he could have married Anna Maria Van Ryneveld is between 1800 and 12 Apr 1801 and she must have died before 12 Apr 1801.

• Occupation. He was Landdrost of Stellenbosch at 37 years old.

And

Ryno Johannes Van Der Riet (1758 - 1828) was Landrost of Stellenbosch, 1795-1812.

info There will inevitably be errors and omissions and the whole purpose of creating this online record, is to invite feedback and corrections.
The data is specifically for non-commercial use and my clear intention is to build family records. The data may, therefore, not be used in any way for the purposes of financial gain.

Caveat:- Throughout the project UK GRO birth, marriage and death index data appears. The GRO data appears in Quarters. Q1 = January, February and March, Q2 = April, May, June , Q3 = July, August and September and Q4 = October, November and December. Similarly, Mar Q = January, February and March, Jun Q = April, May, June , Sep Q = July, August and September and Dec Q = October, November and December. Where these dates occur, they represent the date of Registration of the event rather than the date of the actual event. Logically, registration occurs AFTER the event. In some cases this may be days or months or even years after the event. The important thing is that the event was recorded and a copy of the document of registration could be obtained if necessary. This also applies to South African NAAIRS records.

Similarly, the UK system is confusing to the uninitiated because registration districts can span several counties. Accordingly GRO locations may not record the true location of the event. They do record where the record is actually kept or recorded.

Caveat #2:- I have used URL's throughout the website as sources. The URLs are often from paid subscription sites so you may not be able to access them without an account. Inevitably there are broken URL's. I have been to every URL recorded here and at the time they were operational. In this regard, the Ancestry24 records are a problem. There are numerous references in the South African data citing Ancestry24 records. Unfortunately Ancestry24 has closed down and these records are no longer available on line.

The early South African records on this site would not have been as good as they are without the work done by Delia Robertson. Where there are website addresses containing http://www.e-family.co.za... I record the citation should read Robertson, Delia. The First Fifty Years Project.
