• General Comment. The record a Geni is seriously in error.
http://www.geni.com/people/Edward-Robert-John-Nowers/6000000000709803037

He is shown as marrying ? Clark.
At the South African National Archives there is Edward Robert Nowers and Amy Elizabeth Clark who died in abt 1949 nearly as century later. She is almost certainly not Edward Robert John Mower's second wife.

Also he is shown as having children 2 years before he was born and children out of wedlock. He married Catharina Van Ryneveld in 1887. All children at the Geni record were born before 1881 when he was actually 22.

The children in the Geni records are probably children of his uncle William Henry Nowers and Sara Susanna Ackerman.

My research on Nowers children at Geni

1) Philip (Phillip) Daniel or David George Nowers b 29 Jun 1861, Bredasdorp m. 6 July 1891 at Wepener - Susanna Elizabeth Viljoen
2) Sara (Sarah) Susanna Nowers b 29 Jun 1863, Xhariep - possibly has a daughter Mona
3) Nancy Elizabeth Nowers b 29 Aug 1866, Xhariep
4) Wilhelmina Christina Nowers (Pop) b 26 Nov 1869, Xhariep
5) Catharina (Catherine) Elizabeth Nowers b 21 Apr 1871 d 1946, Xhariep m William Thomas Joyce Robb d 1926 (NAAIRS record)
6) Annie Elizabeth Nowers b 3 Jun 1874, Xhariep
7) Francis (Francina) Margaret (Margaretha) Nowers b 20 Jul 1875, Xhariep m Johan Willem Petrus Swart
8) Theophily Emily Nowers b 1877 d 1972 m Gideon Daniel Du Plessis d 1948(NAAIRS record) has a daughter or grandaughter Theophily Emily married Grove (NAAIRS record)
9) Agnes Boon Nowers b 23 Dec 1881 d 1964, Xhariep m George Boivin (Bonin) Gunn

Based on the Geni birth dates which I was unable to verify, these 9 were all children of one family.
They are definitely not chidren of Edward Robert John Nowers and Catharina Van Ryneveld.

They are not children of George Joseph Nowers as he died in 1872
They are not children of John Edward Nowers and Anne Maria haylett as they have children in the same period.
They could be children of Robert Boon Nowers and Christina Groenewald
They are most likely children of William Henry Mowers and Sara (Susara) Susanna Ackerman after whom (2) above is named.

WRT Kathleen, Dorothy and John Hobday Nowers.

The only records I found were
Kathleen Annie Nowers b 25 May 1907 d 16 Mar 1998 Buried Bredasdorp - Never married
Dorothy May Nowers b 13 Dec 1908 d 1 Aug 1991 Buried Bredasdorp
John Hobday Nowers - no record

info There will inevitably be errors and omissions and the whole purpose of creating this online record, is to invite feedback and corrections.
The data is specifically for non-commercial use and my clear intention is to build family records. The data may, therefore, not be used in any way for the purposes of financial gain.

Caveat:- Throughout the project UK GRO birth, marriage and death index data appears. The GRO data appears in Quarters. Q1 = January, February and March, Q2 = April, May, June , Q3 = July, August and September and Q4 = October, November and December. Similarly, Mar Q = January, February and March, Jun Q = April, May, June , Sep Q = July, August and September and Dec Q = October, November and December. Where these dates occur, they represent the date of Registration of the event rather than the date of the actual event. Logically, registration occurs AFTER the event. In some cases this may be days or months or even years after the event. The important thing is that the event was recorded and a copy of the document of registration could be obtained if necessary. This also applies to South African NAAIRS records.

Similarly, the UK system is confusing to the uninitiated because registration districts can span several counties. Accordingly GRO locations may not record the true location of the event. They do record where the record is actually kept or recorded.

Caveat #2:- I have used URL's throughout the website as sources. The URLs are often from paid subscription sites so you may not be able to access them without an account. Inevitably there are broken URL's. I have been to every URL recorded here and at the time they were operational. In this regard, the Ancestry24 records are a problem. There are numerous references in the South African data citing Ancestry24 records. Unfortunately Ancestry24 has closed down and these records are no longer available on line.

The early South African records on this site would not have been as good as they are without the work done by Delia Robertson. Where there are website addresses containing http://www.e-family.co.za... I record the citation should read Robertson, Delia. The First Fifty Years Project.
