Record as follows:-

I received the following emailPreviously I had Ann's name as Hinkler but this had a query against it and I had changed it to Figner. It would seem that Gigner may be the correct name?.

S ubject: Richard Beaumont & Ann Gigner

I was delighted to find the pictures of Richard Beaumont and 'Anne Figner' as I am sure they are also my 5xgreat grandparents too.
It seems her name was Ann Gigner born 1753 and married to Richard Beaumont in 1770.

Contrary to information in a number of family trees on Ancestry I believe Mary Ann Beaumont was born in Hemingford Abbotts, and was the daughter of Richard Beaumont and Ann Gigner. Also that she had a brother Richard Harris Beaumont Doctor of Medicine in Gravesend.

My reasons for think this are:

1. A letter from R H Beaumont on the internet written sep 4 1842 to one of the Harringtons, which must surely be talking about Mary Ann.

http://www.rochfordharringtons.com/page27/downloads-7/files/EPSON021.JPG

It is very difficult to read but after enhancement as far as I can work out it says:

??? Sep 4th 1842

Dear Sir,
I am well aware that there no registry of the Birth or Baptism of any of my Brothers or Sisters at Hemmingford Abbotts and that the ?account of the Book being lost by D Dickens ??/no comment

I remember well the Birth of your mother at Hemmingford as I was in the house at the time. Soon after her birth my Father and Mother went to live at Godmanchester where Jn Beaumont was born and at that time I think your mother must have been about three years old - he was christened at Godmanchester & no doubt registered at that church. I was Godfather to him.

It appears by her ? W Banks certificate she married in July 1804 and was at that time either twenty or twenty one years of age . By adding together the two dates you will come at her age within a few months or at least in years was ?

This is the only clue I have to her age.

Make my love to her at ?

Yrs very truly
R H Beaumont

info There will inevitably be errors and omissions and the whole purpose of creating this online record, is to invite feedback and corrections.
The data is specifically for non-commercial use and my clear intention is to build family records. The data may, therefore, not be used in any way for the purposes of financial gain.

Caveat:- Throughout the project UK GRO birth, marriage and death index data appears. The GRO data appears in Quarters. Q1 = January, February and March, Q2 = April, May, June , Q3 = July, August and September and Q4 = October, November and December. Similarly, Mar Q = January, February and March, Jun Q = April, May, June , Sep Q = July, August and September and Dec Q = October, November and December. Where these dates occur, they represent the date of Registration of the event rather than the date of the actual event. Logically, registration occurs AFTER the event. In some cases this may be days or months or even years after the event. The important thing is that the event was recorded and a copy of the document of registration could be obtained if necessary. This also applies to South African NAAIRS records.

Similarly, the UK system is confusing to the uninitiated because registration districts can span several counties. Accordingly GRO locations may not record the true location of the event. They do record where the record is actually kept or recorded.

Caveat #2:- I have used URL's throughout the website as sources. The URLs are often from paid subscription sites so you may not be able to access them without an account. Inevitably there are broken URL's. I have been to every URL recorded here and at the time they were operational. In this regard, the Ancestry24 records are a problem. There are numerous references in the South African data citing Ancestry24 records. Unfortunately Ancestry24 has closed down and these records are no longer available on line.

The early South African records on this site would not have been as good as they are without the work done by Delia Robertson. Where there are website addresses containing http://www.e-family.co.za... I record the citation should read Robertson, Delia. The First Fifty Years Project.
