Sources of information or noted events in his life were:
• General Comment. After his father's death he inherited some land which he left to his brother Thomas to farm. He expected the latter to pay rent but that worthy maintained that if he were keeping the land in condition that this was quite enough & the result of this difference of opinion was a family estrangement which lasted for many years.

http://www.cstgpa.com/george_ireland_russell_family.html Richard Harris Beaumont, married Miss Osbourne of Linclnshire (Biston?), descended from FitzOsbourne, Seneschal to William the Conqueror. Their eldest daughter, Mary Beaumont, married George Ireland Russell, beheaded in the reign of James II.

The Russell Myth Lucy Cozalet starts her account with the statement "The earliest authentic records in the family concern Thomas Russell, Yeoman, who was born at Boarhunt". It is impossible to tell for certain but I wonder whether this is an oblique reference to the belief I am sure that my Grandfather held that Thomas Russell was a descendant of Lord William Russell, Duke of Bedford. The fact that Lucy Cozalet makes no reference to this Russell ancestry leads me to conclude that this version of history was not part of her family folklore.
On the back of a picture of Dr Beaumont, father in law to Dr George Ireland Russell, was written,
"Richard Harris Beaumont of Huntingdonshire, married Miss Osborne of Lincolnshire (Boston?), descended from FitzOsborne, Seneschal to William the Conqueror. Their eldest daughter, Mary Beaumont, married George Ireland Russell, descended from Lord William Russell, beheaded in the reign of James II."
I know of no proven evidence to support a link with the Bedford family. I was brought up with the understanding that a Russell ancestors had been "Governors" of Portchester Castle and I found a hand written note in my Grandfather's records which reads:
"William the Conqueror sails from Dieves sur Mere in 1066 to conquer England, taking some of his knights with him. Having conquered the south of England, he gave some of the castles and lands to his knights; To Robert de Rousel the castle of Portchester and 200 acres of land. The land has remained all through the centuries in the Russell family. A few generations ago the last of the fields were sold and the castle is now a national monument.
The list of knights was engraved in stone on the parish church of Dieves."
I have also a record of a visit made by Great Grandfather William Russell (I think) to this church in France listing the names of the Russells "from whom we are descended". Based upon this belief, either Dr George Ireland or his son William Thomas "adopted" the Duke of Bedford's Coat of Arms, albeit with minor modification. Indeed my Grandfather was still using it on his stationary up until his death. Sadly even if Great Great Grandfather Thomas Russell was entitled to a Coat of Arms, his eldest son and not George Ireland, the 5th and youngest son, would have inherited the entitlement from him.

• Photographs. The photograph came from HRE [1576]
He was the youngest son of Thomas Russell of Portchester, Hampshire. See extract from Lucy Cazalet's history below. I [ HRE [1576] ] have a portrait of him in my possession in middle age along with those of two of his daughters, Francis and Alice. The Visitor's guide to Gravesend (copy held by Chris Graham) shows a Dr Russell, Surgeon, at 62 The High Street. I believe that Chris Graham has the originals of these paintings
• Children. According to the notes from HRE and Lucy Cazalet, George Ireland Russel had 9 children. I could only locate 7. In the notes it is recorded that only 5 survived to adulthood to whit:- 1.Laura Beaumont = Joseph Coombe 2.Alice Howard, died aged 20. 3.Frances, married Albert F Field 4.George Ireland = Emma Brewer 5.William = Jane Wood (parents of G.I.Russell of Leatherhead).
In the notes there is a Hugo Russell who appears to have been excomunicated for some reason.
George married Mary Beaumont, daughter of Dr. Richard Harris Beaumont and Mary Osborne, on 3 Jun 1830 in St. Georges, Gravesend, Kent, England. (Mary Beaumont was born on 9 Sep 1803 in Gravesend, Kent, England 4,6,7, christened on 15 Oct 1803 in Gravesend, Kent, England, died on 27 Feb 1881 in Gravesend, Kent, England 4 and was buried in Gravesend, Kent, England.)
